Messi Passes 400 Career Goals
As Barcelona swept aside Granada 6-0 on Saturday, Lionel Messi bagged a brace to hit his 400th and 401st career goals. A truly astonishing statistic for a 27 year old who has played just 525 games for both club and country.
It’s important to note that this tally includes only competitive Barcelona fixtures, and so discounts the 28 goals Messi has scored in Barca friendly fixtures. The total does however include international friendlies.
Here’s a full breakdown of where his 401 goals have been scored:
248 goals in La Liga
67 goals in the Champions League
29 in the Copa Del Rey
10 in the Supercopa de Espana (Spanish Super Cup)
1 in the Uefa Super Cup
4 in the Club World Cup
359 competitive goals for Barcelona in total (in 432 appearances)
21 goals in competitive Argentina fixtures
21 goals in Argentina friendlies
42 international goals in total (in 93 appearances)
Grand total = 401 career goals
With Cristiano Ronaldo currently outscoring his rival this season, this is a nice landmark for Messi to hit and could help reignite the race for this year’s golden boot awards – and of course, the Ballon d’Or award, currently held by Ronaldo.
