  1. Ronaldo beats Messi to Uefa player of the year

On Thursday Cristiano Ronaldo was voted Uefa player of the year for the third time beating rival Lionel Messi in the process.

The Portuguese superstar’s player of the year award takes him one ahead of Messi who last won the title for the 2014/15 season and comes after Ronaldo guided Real Madrid to a League and Champions League double firing in 12 goals in Europe’s elite club competition.

Already Ronaldo’s Madrid have been instilled as favourites for the La Liga title this season with betting odds making Cristiano just behind Messi to end as top goal-scorer.

The pair have been dominant in Spain’s Premier division and have claimed the last four player of the year awards between them.

However, Ronaldo, has given insight into who can take over his mantle as he will be 33 next year and cannot go on forever.

When asked by a reporter to name some players he thinks can succeed him, he replied by saying: “A good question, I see some great potential” and highlighedt six in particular.

    But who are they?

    Marco Asensio

The first player Ronaldo reeled off was team-mate Marco Asensio. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder is making a name for himself in the Madrid ranks and made his Spanish international debut in 2016.

Asensio played an important role for Real last season and played 38 times scoring 10 goals in all competitions last season and already has 2 strikes in four appearances this season.

    Kylian Mbappe

The Monaco man on everyone’s lips, Mbappe appears to have the world at his feet and has impressed Ronaldo as a result.

Mbappe caught the key most notably for his performances for Monaco in the Champions League last season.

The Frenchman is still only 18 and it appears destined for a big money move to PSG sooner rather than later and we can only hope he continues his development and lives up to expectation.

    Neymar

Ronaldo has plenty of first-hand experience of the Brazilian wonder kid who is more of a wonder man at 25-years of age.

A record breaking deal this summer to PSG has lifted Neymar further up the footballing echelons and bright start has ensued with two goals on his debut.

    Ousmane Dembele

Barcelona’s new forward Dembele has big shoes to fill following Neymar’s departure. The former Dortmund and Rennes attacker has had a bright start to his career and found the back of the net six times in 32 Bundesliga appearances last season.

    Eden Hazard

Like Neymar, another player in his mid-twenties but due to his consistently high performances for Chelsea, feels like he has been around much longer.

The Belgian attacking midfielder has already made 174 Premier League appearances for the Blues scoring a whopping 57 times.

    Marcus Rashford

Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford has an impressive record at Old Trafford despite only being 19 and having spent a lot of time on the bench.

45 League appearances have returned 10 goals for the youngster and with Mourinho’s signing of Lukaku, could we soon see Rashford start to itchy feet and want out for regular first team action.

  2. Lionel Messi v Cristiano Ronaldo

Football has seen a lot of iconic rivalries over history. Probably the greatest of all was the one between legends of the game, Pele and Maradona. There is literally no football enthusiast who has not been asked for an opinion in regards to which of the two greats had the supremacy. It is actually impossible to provide an adequate answer as it is very hard to compare which of them was better as they do not belong to the same time-frame at all, but nobody can deny the fact that both of them were more than superior for their time being.

However, the above mentioned iconic rivalry has been replaced by probably the one even more iconic. The one we have the opportunity to still enjoy in as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi do not have the intention of stopping.

The world has never previously seen such consistency of scoring at the highest possible level before two new masters of the game stepped on the courts. Spain is lucky to have them both on its soil as the two stars play for the arch-rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona.

There is a general notion that Lionel Messi has always somehow had an edge over Cristiano Ronaldo ever since the beginnings of their rivalry, but the Portuguese superstar stole the show by leading his national team to the European Championship title as well as taking Real Madrid to a record-breaking Champions League title in the last season.

Whilst Ronaldo had a much more successful season overall (Real Madrid won Primera Division title as well), it was Lionel Messi who won the Pichichi award being the league’s top scorer with 37 goals (12 more than Cristiano). Leo already has two goals in the new season while Ronaldo is sidelined due to the suspension and won’t be able to play next two matches as well. This is why you can have Messi at 1/2 to become La Liga’s top scorer once again, but we would not underestimate the Portuguese star after the survey done by bettintips4you.com just before the start of the season.

The question was: Who will be the 2017/18 Primera Division top scorer and 60% of football fans picked Ronaldo arguing that he enjoys  a much better form at this stage. Given that the bookmakers price up the Real Madrid star at 3/1 to take his new Pichichi award, we just can’t resist noticing the immense value there.

In all, just as we stated for the rivalry between Pele and Maradona, it is almost impossible to give an accurate answer of which of the two players is better. Actually, former Barca and Real Madrid legend Luis Figo best described the rivalry saying: “Messi or Ronaldo” It’s like choosing between white truffle and caviar”.

  3. Who will score more goals next season: Ronaldo or Messi?

    Leave a Comment Christiano Ronaldo

The 2017-18 La Liga campaign is just a few weeks away. The Spanish domestic league is one of the most competitive and entertaining in Europe, and next season promises to be hugely exciting. Real Madrid reclaimed the league title last season, and their bitter rivals Barcelona will be determined to take it back from Zinedine Zidane’s side. Atletico Madrid will be aiming to challenge for the La Liga title yet again as well.

For almost ten years, a major subplot in the La Liga title race has been the rivalry between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Madrid ace Ronaldo and Barcelona star Messi are the two best players in the world, and which team win La Liga next season will depend much on these two genuine legends of the game. Both are natural goalscorers, and although both are in their 30s, they remain at the top of their game.

Ronaldo has altered his game and is more or less a ‘goal poacher’ these days. There were injury and fitness concerns for the Portugal international last season, but he still scored 25 goals in 29 La Liga matches for Madrid last season. The former Manchester United star scored 12 goals in 13 Champions League games, and his end to the season was his best for many years.

The 32-year-old has become more conservative in his game and does not run as much as he used to when he was in his 20s. However, Ronaldo remains as clinical and as potent as ever, and with the likes of Karim Benzema, Isco and Gareth Bale around him, he will be confident of scoring 35 to 40 goals at least next season. If Ronaldo remains fit throughout the campaign, then it would not be a bad idea to place a bet on him to win the Trofeo Pichichi.

Ronaldo seems all set for the 2017 Ballon d’Or as well, thanks to his exceptional performances for Madrid last season. The former Manchester United ace is 1/33 to win the most prestigious individual prize in football, with Messi second-favourite with odds of 16/1.

Interestingly, both Barcelona and Madrid are joint-favourites for the La Liga title with odds of 10/11. With Los Blancos have been the busier of the two sides in the summer transfer window so far, the odds could shorten on them if they complete the signing of 18-year-old AS Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe.

There are some great betting offers for all Ronaldo’s fans, who will back the Madrid star to become the top scorer in Spain for the first time since 2014-15 and for the fourth time since his arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2009. With some bookmakers offering up £200 as welcome bonuses, you could place an early bet on Ronaldo bettering Messi in the scoring department next season and then sit back and enjoy the campaign.

Of course, Messi will be Ronaldo’s main competitor for the Trofeo Pichichi next season. The Barcelona star scored as many as 37 goals in La Liga last season, and if he does not miss a chunk of the 2017-18 campaign, then he will be up there once again. However, the 30-year-old may not be thinking about winning the topscorer’s award in La Liga next season due to the current circumstances at Camp Nou.

Barcelona are under immense pressure at the moment, having failed to do much of note in the Champions League last season; they also lost the La Liga title to Madrid. Moreover, the Blaugrana have a new manager in charge, Ernesto Valverde, who could have a different idea of using Messi. If Neymar leaves for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window, then the Argentina international forward may have to play in the ‘hole’ in order to accommodate Luis Suarez and another forward up front, which could restrict him from getting into goalscoring positions and reduce his chances of winning the Trofeo Pichichi.

  4. Real Bosses Say Ronaldo is Going Nowhere

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to remain at Real Madrid. That is the gospel according to those closest to the football legend, with Real Board members and Ronaldo’s team mates at Los Blancos all saying that their most famous forward will see out his contract, which ties him to the club till 2021.

The very public assurances come on the back of weeks of speculation about Ronaldo’s future. Some sources say he has fallen out of love with Spain after being accused of tax fraud earlier this year, to the tune of €14.7 million. Subsequently, there were rumours linking him with a move to Paris Saint German or even back to Manchester United.

    What went wrong?

The suggestions that Ronaldo, 32, would be moving to pastures new started emerging just days after Spanish prosecutors accused the Portuguese star of evading tax on image rights sales between 2011 and 2014. It is claimed that money was routed through a US Virgin Island-based shell company, called Tollin Associates, which Ronaldo wholly owns. Prosecutors claimed that the company serves no other purpose than to buy his image rights then immediately cede them to another company in the Republic of Ireland.

While these allegations sound serious, it is just another brick in the wall, as far as most Spanish football fans are concerned. Ronaldo is the latest in a long line of La Liga stars, including no lesser names than Neymar and Messi, to face such allegations. In every case, the problem arose with the abolition of the Beckham Law back in 2010, which suddenly meant football stars on telephone number salaries faced huge tax exposures.

    Implications for the fans

Real has enjoyed unprecedented success in recent years, and much of the responsibility for that lies firmly at Ronaldo’s door. His name has become synonymous with the club, and if he were to leave, it would have a huge impact on Los Blanco’s 70 million strong fanbase. However, they would not be the only ones to have their weekends irreversibly changed, should Ronaldo move on. Millions more around the globe visit sites like www.bestbettingsites.co.uk every weekend to place bets on another Real win. The odds, and indeed the results, could take an interesting turn if Ronaldo ends up elsewhere.

    Business as usual

However, we are assured from all sides that this is not going to happen, and from a pragmatic view, it is difficult to envisage Ronaldo taking a gamble on another team at this stage of his career, particularly when we consider the small matter of a €1 billion buyout clause in his Real contract.

Finances aside, though, it cannot be denied that under Zinadine Zidane, Ronaldo has arguably the best coach in world football by his side, and it is hard to see where else he would really want to go. The Manchester United rumour is a tantalising one, but given the history between Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho, it seems implausible. Mourinho himself has distanced himself from all the speculation, simply saying that such a move “would not make sense.”

  5. Will Cristiano Ronaldo go down as the greatest ever?

Cristiano Ronaldo is like marmite; you either love him or you hate him. To most of us, the Portugal legend is the epitome of class. Ronaldo is always involved in charity work, both in and outside of football, and his efforts off the pitch show that he is a decent human being.

But he will mostly be remembered for his performances on the pitch. At 32 years old, he should be slowing down but Ronaldo just enjoyed one of the best years of his glittering career. In 55 appearances for club and country last season, Ronaldo bagged 55 goals, averaging exactly one goal every game; an incredible record.

When you’re talking about the best players of all-time, a few names usually crop up. The likes of Pele, Diego Maradona and Ronaldo’s close rival Lionel Messi are all up there – as is the Real Madrid man himself. Ronaldo has been there and done it all, winning everything there is to win on an individual level whilst achieving plenty of team success at both Madrid and Manchester United.

Since storming onto the scene at Sporting Lisbon, Ronaldo has gone from strength to strength and he is now arguably the best player on the planet. With four Ballon d’Or awards and a fifth likely to follow at the end of 2017, the Portuguese has to be considered in the same bracket as Messi – if not higher.

The Barcelona man has enjoyed a phenomenal career, winning five Ballon d’Or accolades and he deserves to go down in history as one of the greatest to play the game. Messi has helped Barcelona to win 30 trophies during his tenure at Camp Nou and he has also won a record-tying four European Golden Shoes; tied with none other than Ronaldo himself.

Of course, while comparisons are inevitable, football fans should enjoy both men while they still can – age will eventually catch up with the two La Liga stars. For now, though, Messi and Ronaldo will continue to dominate European football for the foreseeable future.

Just as both men will dominate, so too will their respective clubs, Barcelona and Real Madrid. The two giants of Spanish football will almost certainly be involved in yet another two-horse race for the La Liga crown and defending champions Real will be desperate to retain the title. As of July 11th, Ronaldo’s side are 10/11 in La Liga betting markets to do just that and it would take a brave man to back against Los Blancos.

Whether you are a Ronaldo fan or prefer Messi, one thing is for sure: both men are legends of their generation and deserve plenty of respect and recognition for their achievements on the football field. Ronaldo has come a long way since making his Sporting debut and the fact that he has been there and done it in both Spain and England may just give him an added edge over his arch rival in the history books.

  6. Messi v Ronaldo: Are we any closer to settling the debate?

Lionel Messi versus Cristiano Ronaldo is a question which seems to divide every football fan on earth. Both are undoubtedly amongst the best players of all time but at 29 and 32 years old respectively, are we any closer to finding out who is better of the pair? Real are closing in on a La Liga and Champions League double meaning that Barca will have to be content with just the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey should they win the final. Messi has outscored Ronaldo in all competitions but in Europe, the Portuguese star has fired Real to the brink of a third Champions League title in four seasons. These past twelve months have certainly gone in Ronaldo’s favour.

    Messi Barcelona

When Cristiano Ronaldo broke through at Sporting CP and eventually at Manchester United, it was clear that we were witnessing a potentially excellent young player. By the time Lionel Messi made his debut for FC Barcelona in October 2004, Ronaldo was already a starting player for both Manchester United and the Portuguese national team. Their formative years were spent very much in isolation of each other but it wasn’t long before they were forced to face off.

Ronaldo and Messi finally faced one another on the field in the 2008 Champions League and then again in the following season. The rivalry took a new form when Ronaldo moved to Spain with Real Madrid. The pair embodied, in many ways, the perceived differences between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Regardless of how much truth is in that, it has always been difficult to ignore the rivalry.

FC Barcelona were undoubtedly the dominant team during Messi’s early years. Eight La Liga titles and four Champions League crowns for the Argentinean star as he became the centre of a team which changed everything. Pep Guardiola and his later predecessors have brought about massive changes to European football which we are still feeling the effects of today. For many years, the contrasting successes of the two clubs have been linked to the contrasting fortunes of the two players in question. Ronaldo’s Real were style over substance while Messi’s Barca took football to new heights. In recent years, that has changed.

As FC Barcelona have struggled to cope with the absence of Guardiola and a few board members off the field, the players on it have also been hurt by the loss of Xavi Hernandez, Carles Puyol and Dani Alves. Compare that with Cristiano Ronaldo’s fortunes in the last three seasons and there’s little doubt that the Portuguese star has reigned supreme. His Portugal side won the European Championships (international success being the one thing which has evaded Lionel Messi) while Real secured La Decima, La Unedecima and soon perhaps, La Duodecima.

Fresh after La Liga success, it is Ronaldo’s Real side which has reached the final of the UEFA Champions League yet again. It’s the third time in four seasons that Los Blancos have got there but this one will be different. With Real as the designated away side, they won’t be able to wear their famous white kit against Juventus. Unfortunately for Real, white is by far the most successful colour (Source: Betway Insider) for teams in the European Cup with 23 sides lifting the trophy since 1955 wearing the colour. Ronaldo will still undoubtedly fancy his chances but it’s not exactly a good omen.

A third Champions League success would certainly play in Ronaldo’s favour. It’s undoubted that there has been a power shift in Spain with Real Madrid now the best team in the country. Manager Zinedine Zidane may not be playing with a similar style to Pep’s Barca at their best, but his Real side are incredibly efficient at winning football matches. Cristiano Ronaldo is key to that, especially in Europe. An incredible eight of his ten Champions League goals have come in the knockout rounds this season after hat-tricks against both Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich. Messi is still the top goalscorer in the competition but the vast majority of his came in the group stage.

With Real gunning for a double, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Cristiano Ronaldo has far outperformed Lionel Messi this season. Despite their relative success in La Liga, FC Barcelona are a bit of a mess right now. Manager Luis Enrique is stepping away and things certainly haven’t looked as settled for Barca at board level. They’re a top-heavy side with serious flaws and the fact that they finished three points behind Real in the league is nothing short of a Messi-inspired miracle. His presence was no more evident than in April’s El Clasico between the two sides but throughout the season, Messi’s performances have been the difference for FC Barcelona on so many occasions.

It’s been a strange season in the grand question of Ronaldo vs Messi. Ronaldo’s Real are on course for a league and European double while Messi’s Barca have been very much second best. However, both players have produced some of the best moments of their careers at hugely important times this season. This hasn’t been a Ronaldo-dominated season, neither has it been the same for Messi. 2016-17 and this era of football is only making it more difficult to answer the question of Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi.

  7. The Reason Why Nobody Can Match Cristiano Ronaldo

Coming up for 32, Ronaldo is still bagging the Ballon d’Or even though the end of his career should be in sight. An unstoppable drive to be the best is behind 15 years of reinvention as Ronaldo’s game has changed to suit his competition, teammates and his own body

    Force of Personality

If there’s something that’s true for Ronaldo and isn’t always for Messi, it’s that Ronaldo always wants it more than his opponents.
And just by checking out some Ronaldo facts and info you see how this obsession with being the best has lifted him to a level only a couple of players in history have reached.

    Always Changing

After watching him for almost 15 years, what’s so amazing about Cristiano Ronaldo is the way he evolves.
You understand the endless work he must put in on the training ground when you see the different stages of his career.

    Putting on Pounds

So he started as an elusive winger at Sporting and then Manchester United. At that time he had the pace and the tricks, but the temperament wasn’t there and he needed to add a bit of muscle.
Once he beefed himself up to meet the rigours of the Premier League you had the ultimate individual who could win a game alone with long-shots, solo goals and free-kicks.

    The Creator

At Real Madrid he changed again, and became more aware when his teammates were in better scoring positions.
At this point he had matured as a person. And by 2014-15 he was registering 21 league assists compared to seven in 2009-10.

    The Poacher

And now, with pace waning a little, Ronaldo has sharpened his penalty box instincts and relies on movement off the ball more than on it.
In 2016-17 he’s making less than one dribble a game, which is astounding for a player whose early career was defined by mazy runs.

    The Conclusion

So what’s astonishing is how different Ronaldo is now to the player who hit form at Manchester United a decade ago. And yet he remains one of the best two players in the world.
This shows that the key to his talent lies in his personality. And the reason he is still at the top of the game is because he still wants it more than anybody else.

  8. Free bets and offers on La Liga

Every La Liga weekend there are new free bet offers and promotions on the upcoming matches. More often than not these offers are towards Cristiano’s Real Madrid and Messi’s Barcelona. In this article we want to go through how to keep track of all the new offers to be able to catch them all.

    Different kind of offers

The most popular type of offer is usually the free bet offer. That basically means that you’ll get one bet for free up to a certain amount. The only catch is that you most of the time need to deposit and wager a small bet before hand. But as the free bet is free it’s basically free money and a possibility to win even more.

Another popular type of promotions is the enhanced odds offers. The king of enhanced odds are Paddy Power and they usually do enhanced odds on a match every La Liga weekend. If you want to find the best paddy powers offers the easiest thing is just to read betting promotions blogs and check different sites for betting offers before every weekend. Here’s some of the enhanced offers Paddy Power have done before:

    • 7/1 on Real Madrid v Malmoe in the Champions League in 2015
    • 9/1 on Cristiano Ronaldo to win the Golden Foot in 2014
    • 3/1 on Messi to win the Ballon D’or in 2012

A lot of fun offers in other words!

Another type of betting bonus is the match bonus which basically means that your deposit will be matched up to a certain amount. Towards UK players that amount is usually somewhere between £20 and £50 but for other it can be both higher and lower. Scandinavians, for example, usually get a match bonus up to £100.

  9. The Messi-Ronaldo rivalry: All that you need to know

The Argentine forward, Lionel Messi and the Portugese forward Cristiano Ronaldo are talented and famous in their own way. Yet their football rivalry is known only too well in the football circuit! Ask any fans and they can rattle off 10 things each about why they support Messi or Ronaldo.

Both Messi and Ronaldo have different physiques and playing styles. Their contrasting personalities are also what set them apart. Although debatable, Ronaldo seems arrogant and has been depicted as a show off, while Messi is shy and has a humble character.

Let’s take a look at what sets them apart from each other…

    Lionel Messi

Messi was discovered at the age of 13 by Barcelona scout, Josep Maria Minguella. He moved to Spain where he progressed to La Masia, Barcelona’s youth academy. He made his senior debut on 16 October 2004.

Throughout the early years of his career, Messi was constantly compared to Maradona. In fact, he was even called ‘New Maradona’. This was majorly due to the fact that a couple of important goals that he scored remarkably resembled Maradona’s.

In fact, Maradona himself confessed, Ive already seen the player who will be able to inherit my place in Argentina and he is Messi.

    Some of Messis Major Achievements

    • All-time top goal scorer in La Liga
    • Only player to score 5 UEFA Champions League hat-tricks
    • Only player to score 5 in a single Champions League game
    • Scored his 400th goal on 27 September 2014

    Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo’s professional career began in October 2002. In the following year, Manchester United’s manager, Alex Ferguson noticed him and immediately signed him up for £12.2 million.

His talents were noted rather early on. He even caught the attention of United’s legend, George Best. In fact, George Best went on to say, A lot of players have been compared to me and have been called the new George Best, but this is the first time its a huge compliment to me.

    Some of Ronaldos Major Achievements

    • All-time top goal scorer for Portugal national football team
    • Scored 61 goals in 133 appearances since his August 2003 debut
    • Scored goals in three consecutive World Cups (2006, 2010 and 2014)
    • Scored 9 goals in four UEFA European Championships (2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016)

Between Messi and Ronaldo, they have won 8 FIFA Ballon d’Or awards. Both have been recognised as the best players in the world in their generation and among the best of all time too.

    Some of Their Common Achievements

Although Messi and Ronaldo have been compared a lot, both share a few individual achievements as mentioned below.

    • Both have scored in 2 UEFA Champions League
    • They have individually broken the 50-goal barrier in a single season
    • Both have scored more than 500 goals each in their career for the club and country
    • They are the two highest paid players in football; Ronaldo at about $88 million, followed by Messi at $81.4 million
    • They also have the biggest social media following among the sportspeople, their combined Facebook fans were 200 million as of July 2016

So although there seems to be a lot of rivalry and competition between them, both are talented in their own right.

In fact, in one of the interviews, Ronaldo said that he feels that they push each other in the competition, which is why the competition is so high. He also said that they look at this ‘so-called rivalry’ with a positive spirit because it’s a great motivating factor and essentially, a good thing!

    Wagering on Messi or Ronaldo?

  10. New season with betting opportunities

The season 2016-17 just started for some leagues around the world, the spanish La Liga which features both Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi will begin this friday with Malga v Osasuna to kick it off. We thought we would look into some of the fun long term betting tips. All our odds are collected from William Hill – one of the best sportsbooks out there.

    Outright winner of La Liga

    • Barcelona – 8/11
    • Real Madrid – 7/5
    • Atletico Madrid 10/1

As we see it the Atletico Madrid odds is very high. Even though they might not have the same history as Barca or Real they have a couple of fantastic years behind them and it seems like they’re only getting better by each season. Last year they really did challenge Barca and Real for the title even though they fell a couple of points short. They also impsressed in the Champions League reaching the final and being beaten by Real in penalties with Cristiano scoring the deciding penalty.

    Top scorer

    • Cristiano Ronaldo – 15/8
    • Luis Suarez – 15/8
    • Lionel Messi – 9/4

Cristiano will miss the start of the season with the injury that he got in the EURO 2016 final and that will give both Leo and Suarez a head start on the route to the Pichichi award.  Even though Suarez was Barca’s main goal scorer last season I still believe that the Messi odds is a bit high. He will still take the penalties and most of the free kicks. I’m betting on Messi here.
